Background

I’ve worked in the counselling profession nearly all my adult life. I’ve had the privilege of working across a variety of settings and in both urban and rural locations. Most recently prior to private practice, I supported educators across Chinook’s Edge School Division providing counselling for teachers & educational assistants.

No matter where I’ve found myself, it has been clear to me that to be human is to experience struggle. To be human also means we are designed to persevere - and that through healthy connection with ourselves & one another we can not only survive, but experience joy, hopefulness & purpose.

More personally, I am also a wife, and a mom to one child in middle school and another in high school. I have experienced my own sorrows and challenges. Some which generated deep pain; some which caused me to question my capabilities, my choices, my assumptions; and all of which have ultimately deepened my empathy for others, my compassion for self, and my curiosity about what it means to be human.

Values

You are the expert in your life. It is my job to partner with you in your quest for improved wellbeing, increased functioning, and deeper self awareness.

I work from a strengths-based approach, meaning I focus on your existing internal resourcefulness, qualities, abilities & skills.

It is critical to me that you feel comfortable & safe in our work together. It is my job to create the conditions for a positive therapeutic relationship.

Your privacy is a priority. Seeking my support means our interactions and conversations are confidential. An initial session covers this in more detail.

I embrace a non-judgmental stance. This means that dignity and respect are central to our counselling relationship.

It is my goal to help you discover new perspectives, insights, skills & knowledge, leading to healthier ways of relating to yourself & others.

I am an LGBTQ+ affirming professional - this means that I encourage and validate individuals in their identity and recognize the real impact of oppression in the experience of LGBTQ+ individuals. I am committed to continued learning, listening & training to increase my own ability to provide support and care.

As a counselling therapist, I participate in ongoing professional development and seek to align my work with current best-practice.
